The Ember Players Committee

After two years of happy involvement with the Ember Players, I had heard of the committee but didn't understand what they did for the Ember Players overall. During rehearsals for 'The Comedy Of Errors' earlier this year, I realised that I wanted to continue being part of the Ember Players because I enjoy it so much and also, I was interested in learning more about what goes on behind the scenes and how a theatre company is managed. When I was told this is exactly how the committee functions then I was interested in getting involved. So, I stoood for election and was voted in and I thank eveyone for their support.

Since then, I've been very happy being part of the committee. We meet once a month, taking turns to host the meetings and everyone plays an important part (unintentional good pun there!) = Chair person, secretary, treasurer, committee member and so on. The mood of each meeting is relaxed and productive plus important items to do with the company are discussed, such as future productions, future social events, company financial situations and other goings on at the club as a whole.

This is both enjoyable and insightful. With a group of friends I'm able to see how a theatre company is managed and when appropriate, offer solutions in guiding the company in a positive, creative and dynamic direction. This is a shared vision because as committee members, we all care about the Ember Players and the quality of the productions we produce season after season.

It has certainly been an eye opener and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to join, plus I enjoy the lovley hospitality shown from whoever is hosting a meeting. I hope I can do just as good a job when its my turn to host!

I recommend joining the committee for anyone who is interested in getting more managerial experience in a theatre company and who enjoys being part of the Ember Players. Like being involved in a production, it requires commitment but in return gives many rewards and is certainly worth it.
