INTERVIEW BY THE EMBER PLAYERS ROVING REPORTER WITH NEW MEMBER, KAREN MEGRANAHAN

RR:      How did you first hear about Ember Players?

KM:     I received a leaflet through the door at home and it mentioned an Open Day at Ember Sports Club.

RR:      So, what appealed to you?

KM:     Drama – especially because I’ve been involved in amateur dramatics before.  About 15 years ago I belonged to a club.

RR:      Did you have any previous experience?

KM:     A bit of back stage, front of house, on stage, props, scenery….but it’s not extensive by any means.

RR:      What have been your initial impressions of Ember Players?

KM:     Everyone seemed really friendly.  I met David and Linda Martin first.  I think it’s important that when you belong to a club that you feel welcomed.  There was no feeling of it being clique-y.  There is such as wide range of people – both in age and type.

RR:      How did you first get involved?

KM:     I came along to a rehearsal of ‘Stepping Out’ and met Paddy.  She said they were organising some social events.  One of them was to see ‘Singing in the Rain’ at the National Theatre.  I also came to the bar-b-que and the picnic.  I was lucky joining in the summer, as there were lots of events.

RR:      What are you currently participating in?

KM:     Both my daughter Danielle and I came to the auditions for ‘Wind in the Willows’ and are now in the production for December.

RR:      What role are you taking in ‘Wind in the Willow’?

KM:     I’m a singing and dancing rabbit!  When I came to the auditions, I didn’t have a specific role in mind, but wanted to see if both Danielle and I could be involved.  I really like the fact that we’re both in the same production.  I didn’t want anything too demanding as being new to the club, it gives me a chance to see how things are done and meet as many people as possible.

RR:      How are you enjoying it?

KM:     The rehearsals are fun!  One of the advantages of a large cast is you get to see what other people can do.  As a rabbit, I’m looking forward to squirting the smoke machine!

RR:      Have you considered a role in a production next year?

KM:     I’d like to get this production under my belt first, as it’s important for me to fulfil my commitment to the team.  Then it depends on the production and opportunities for me…but watch this space!
